Beijing's traffic management bureau declares its program for upgrading the city's traffic signs is complete and in full use. The program is a part of the city's traffic management effort aimed at expediting traffic flow during the games.
Beijing has fully upgraded its road signs for the Olympic Games. The project took a year to complete. 72-hundred blue and white sign designated locations of roads, hutongs, and fly-overs in both Chinese and English. Drivers receive additional guidance from signs denoting the distance to key exits along major routes. At complex interchanges signs are posed guiding drivers and pointing the way to important exits.
Sui Gangya, deputy director of Beijing Traffic Management Bureau, said "The traffic signs are clearer now, easy to recognize, and humanized. The project provides additional support for Olympic transportation and guarantees safety and convenience for travelers. "
The project also created signs specific to the Olympic Games. These are designed "Beijing2008." They show distances and routes to various Olympic venues, designated hotels, media centres and other important sites.
